Question: How many computers can I use IFXBackup on?

Answer: Some backup companies charge you to add additional computers to your backup plan, Why? You paid for the data storage! What difference does it make where the data comes from within your office? That's why here at IlluminationsFX you may use IFXBackup on an UNLIMITED number of machines so long as the systems are at the same physical address and in the same office. For instance, if your office has 5 computers. ALL those systems may have IFX Backup installed and backing up locally and/or online. All computers will use the same FTP location for offsite backups. This means that all files backed up from all systems would count toward your backup plan total.

Each system may use the same encryption passwords OR different passwords, that is up to each individual office administrator. You will need to register each computer separately.

Question: Do I own IFX Backup when I download it?

Answer: No, IFX Backup is leased to you for a period of 12-months even though you may opt to pay monthly. This doesn't mean, however, that you are allowed to keep IFX Backup software on your system should you decide to cancel your account. If you cancel your backup plan you will need to uninstall all instances of IFX Backup.

Question: How strong is 128-bit encryption?

Answer: Lets assume a hacker could find a computer that can guess 1 trillion (1 followed by 12 zeroes) keys a second. On average, it would take around 2 million million million (2 followed by 18 zeroes) years to guess the key to your encrypted files.

Question: What type of password should I use to encrypt my files?

Answer: You should use a paraphrase of some sort instead of a simple word. When coming up with a paraphrase you should use uppercase, lowercase, spaces and special characters. The longer your paraphrase the stronger the encryption will be.

Question: Why should I use encryption?

Answer: By encrypting your files you ensure that only those authorized to view them can do so. Not even IFX can view your files because we don't keep encryption passwords on file. We have all heard of data being stolen from laptops, old hard drives, etc. If your data is stolen or compromised and was encrypted it would be virtually impossible for that data to be unencrypted and used in any way. Encrypted data is basically useless in the hands of anyone other than the person with the proper credentials.

Question: I don't see business plans for IFX Backup, Why?

Answer: Simple, we don't have one! IFX doesn't take advantage of business customers simply because they are a business. Data is data to IFX and we don't differentiate between business data or home use data. Our backup plans are simple, you choose the space you need, doesn't matter if that space is used for business or home backup use!

Question: What happens if I go over my Backup Plan space?

Answer: You can continue to backup over your allotted space, but you will be charged an additional $4.95 per 500MB over your Plans stated data storage. Space is rounded up, so if you use 504MB you will be charged $9.90 in addition to your monthly plan charge.

If you go over your limit and decide that you need to upgrade to the next plan up, we will waive your overage charge. You must upgrade within 10-days of your billing due date in which the overage charges appeared in order to have the overage fee(s) waived. You may not downgrade within 60-days of taking advantage of this waiver or you will be reassessed the original overage fee(s).

Question: WARNING on backing up of compressed files or compressed encrypted files.

Answer: WARNING! If you choose to compress a set of folders or files and back those up using a scheduled or manual backup the next time that same job is run the entire compressed file will be overwritten at the destination location!

In other words, if you have IFX Backup perform a compressed backup today, then tomorrow IFX Backup performs that same job again and the contents of the files/folders of the source have been changed the files/folders not present in the new compressed file will be LOST when that compressed file replaces the compressed file that was made yesterday. If you have files/folders that you want backed up and do not wish to loose them you need to perform a backup WITHOUT compression. By doing this only files that have changed, depending on the backup type chosen, will be replaced. By not using compression any files deleted in your Source would not be lost in the Destination. If you have ANY questions pertaining to this, PLEASE do not hesitate to call or open a help ticket.

Question: Why am I getting a warning message from my firewall telling me that IFX Backup is trying to access my network connection?

Answer: IFX Backup needs to use your network connection to backup files to an FTP server, mapped or networked location. If you are using one of those for your source or destination you will need to allow this access or IFX Backup will be unable to complete the backup Job.

Question: Why does IFX Backup not backup a file or appear to skip a file?

Answer: If a file is in use by either you, another user logged in or by someone on your network IFX Backup may not, in most cases cannot, access that file for backup. You will need to shutdown the program utilizing that file in order for it to be successfully backed up.

Question: Why doesn't IFX Backup delete files not present in my backup source?

Answer: IFX Backup is not a mirroring backup program. Since it isn't, it will not delete files that are no longer in your source location. If IFX Backup was able to delete files you could possibly loose data. For instance, if IFX Backup could delete files and was allowed to proceed with an automatic backup before you realized you had accidentally deleted a file from your local system it would delete that file and the backup that you had set up would be useless.

Question: Can IFX Backup use mapped or network locations as the source or destination?

Answer: Yes, IFX Backup can use mapped or network locations as the source or destination.

Question: Can IFX Backup exclude certain files or folders?

Answer: Yes, IFX Backup can exclude entire directories or individual files in your source directory. You may even exclude all files of a certain type. For instance, if you had a folder set to backup and didn't want any Word documents to backup you could exclude them using *.doc

Question: Is there a compression file size cap with IFX Backup?

Answer: At this time compressed files are limited to 4GB in size. Any job exceeding 4GB in size using compression will fail. This limit may be changed in the future, but if this limit is hindering your backup we would like to know. Most individuals don't use jobs that are this resource intensive. The 4GB size limitation does NOT affect Jobs setup that do not use compression. In other words a Job with 10GB of data and either with/without encryption will backup successfully.

Question: I have lost my encryption password can you help me with that ?

Answer: Unfortunately, we are unable to help you with this. Encrypted file passwords are only known by the person who encrypts the files. IFX does not keep this sort of information on file as it would lessen the security of your backups. It is VERY important for you to remember your encryption password!

Question: I have a large job that I will be backing up. Can I send you CD's or DVD's with those files so that the first Full Backup will not take so long?

Answer: Sure, we can help you with that FREE of charge! All we ask is that you are careful of what type of files you send us and use encrypted files if you can. You can do this by performing a local backup with those files using the encryption function. This way if those files are lost in the mail you wont have to worry about where they went. After the files are uploaded, we will destroy the media unless otherwise instructed.

Question: Windows says that "The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted." when I try to view the files in my compressed backup file.

Answer: The Windows compression tool is unable to read or unzip compressed files backed up by IFX Backup. You may, however, use WinRAR which can view and/or unzip IFX Backup compressed files. In addition, if you choose "Decompress" in an IFX Backup Job, choose the compressed file that was created by IFX Backup as the Source, then choose a local destination directory, IFX Backup can unzip the compressed file as well.

Question: My computer slows down when IFX Backup is backing up, Why?

Answer: If IFX Backup is performing a fairly large backup Job involving large files or a combination of large files with compression and/or encryption, your computer may slow down depending on the capabilities of your system. If the backup is slowing you down to the point where you cannot perform other duties on the system you may want to schedule that particular job for another time block when the system wont interfere with normal work duties.
